His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was born in 1896 in Calcutta, India. He met his spritual master, Srila Bhakti Sidhanta Saraswati Thakur, in Calcutta 1992, who instructed him to propagate Krishna Consiousness. He was initiated in 1933. In the years that followed, Srila Prabhupada wrote to his spritual master for rendering any service. Saraswati Thakur replied the same instruction Srila Prabhupada had recived in 1922. "Spread Krishna consciousness". In 1994, Srila Prabhupada started The Back To Godhead, an english mazagine. He single-handedly edited, typed, checked the galley proofs, and distributed copies of it.
In 1950, he adopted the varnaprastha, retired life, to devote more time to his studies and writings. He traveled to Vrindavan and lived there in Radha-Damodara temple. He accepted the renounced sannyasa life in 1959. He began a multi-volume transulation on the Srimad Bhagavatam. He came to United States at 1965 at the instruction of his spritual master. He was penniless. After a year of difficulty he established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. He guided the society to see it grow worldwide confedration of more than 100 asharamas, schools, temples, institutes, and farm communities. He departed from this world in Nov 14, 1977. His disciples are engaged in propagating the movement established by him.
